Carl Clifton has 20 years experience in the film business and, as a sales agent, has handled films that have grossed a total close to $2billion worldwide.

He has sold films across a broad spectrum from big budget, star-driven blockbusters to Oscar winners of diverse range. Films include the biggest ever independently produced animated film Planet 51, Notting Hill, The Green Mile, The Game, The Relic, Hard Rain, Sleepers, French Kiss, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Elizabeth, Bean, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Dead Man Walking, When We Were Kings, Charlotte Gray, Sexy Beast, Oscar winning documentaries Man on Wire and The Cove and the recent foreign language sensation I Am Love.

Until recently Carl Clifton was Managing Director of the Works International and Executive Director of the Board of The Works Media Group plc.

Before The Works he was Chief Operating Officer and Head of International Sales at Handmade Films International. Prior to a short period as an independent producer when he produced 3 films including Patrice Leconte`s award-winning L`Homme du Train which he co-produced with Philippe Carcassonne, Clifton spent 10 years with Polygram seeing the company grow from a boutique film operation under the Manifesto Film Sales banner into the renowned European studio powerhouse before it was absorbed by Universal for whom he also worked for a brief time. Clifton rose from runner to Senior Vice-President and Head of International Sales at Universal Pictures International (previously PolyGram Films International) during his time there.

He also enjoyed as brief stint at Film Four where he ran the International division for a maternity cover period during which he oversaw that company’s biggest ever market.

Carl has been a regular industry consultant for various bodies such as the highly regarded European producer network body ACE for over 15 years, the UK Film Council and a number of its regional organizations. He has taught at France`s FEMIS film school, the IFS school in Cologne and he has tutored for ECAFIC and its Audiovisual Masters Programme. He is a member of BAFTA and the European Film Academy.
