With the stresses and strains of the upcoming election beginning to take their toll, slick and eloquent politician Robert Janacek decides to get away from it all and spend a romantic weekend with his pregnant wife Katherine at her family's weekend retreat in the Tyrolian Alps.

The drive from Vienna turns out to be anything but relaxing however. They are being followed. When Robert confronts the stalker at a motorway service area he recognizes his childhood friend Wolfgang. Embarrassed by this blast from a past he has long forgotten and suppressed, the fiercely ambitious Robert tries gently at first to ditch Wolfgang. But Wolfgang, whose behaviour becomes ever more bizarre and disturbing, is going nowhere and he is determined to dredge up events from Robert’s youth and force him to face the consequences of his actions.

Ready to do anything to keep the ugly truth from his wife, and his voting public, Robert tries increasingly desperately to eliminate this threat to everything he has worked so hard to achieve.
