Cortés

Synopsis
In 1519, defiant soldier Hernán Cortés abandons royal orders and sails from Cuba to the Yucatán, driven by a hunger for glory beyond the reach of kings. On an unknown continent, he encounters the splendor of the indigenous world and enslaves Marina, a brilliant woman whose gift for language makes her his interpreter—and his sharpest weapon. Marching inland, Cortés bends faith and fear to his will: burning his ships, forging fragile alliances, and massacring those who resist. His ambition reshapes him from explorer into a self-appointed messiah. He enters Tenochtitlán, the radiant heart of the Aztec Empire, where Emperor Moctezuma—haunted by prophecy—welcomes the Spaniards as divine guests. For a brief moment, two worlds coexist, trading gold, belief, and power. But Cortés’s ambition fractures the illusion. He imprisons Moctezuma, abandons the city to fight rival Spaniards, and returns to rebellion and fire. As famine and slaughter consume Tenochtitlán, Marina translates the cries of the dying while Cortés claims divine victory. When the smoke clears, an empire lies in ruins—and the conqueror stands triumphant, hollow, and alone.
